currents, polar ice caps, shifting winds,
warming seas can be responsible for all
sorts of oddities you’d not anticipate.
Still, a day like this in May, blue skies,
gentle breeze, eighty-two degrees, may
just leave one thinking that the world
isn’t headed for environmental doom,
that Maia isn’t just a Roman goddess,
but a living truth reflected in a day
like this: renewal, growth, fertility.
And there’s the danger: to be lulled
by days like this that seem so perfect
what could possibly require fixing?
