Inside Blues

Mad rain beat down
all day in his room,
even while the sun

blazed outside and
sky shook with blue.
While he fought to

stand, he could see
nothing but waves
of rain pounding

down. Begging it
to cease, he heard
only its roaring

onslaught, a never
abating fury. A true
damnation and fitting

end to his final day, he
thought. Drowning on
a sunny, summer day.

Where Crime Begins

A scarcity of cash loping closer
like an old bull past his prime,

moving towards him nevertheless,
triggering a quiet hysteria. This

being the capital of cruelty in all
its lying glory, no matter what

preachers spit out. How much could
he handle in fires of panic and worry?

He would soon know, for the iron gate
is closing and the sheriff is on his way.

As Last Light Fades

Just a question of biology
now; which parts, connections
or functions are failing, maybe
the heart, kidneys or brain,
brothers and sisters. Whatever,
as you sweat pains and troubles
rumbling through interior
constructions, all operating
less effectively now, in what
are so cleverly called “senior
years”. Reports similar from
siblings and friends still hanging
on despite surgeries and continued
testing and long recollections
of those already gone. I sit by
the window watching rain fall
hard upon this world, smiling
even as new disturbances rise
inside this used up flesh, along
with such surprise I’ve arrived
at this juncture so quickly,
all those decades gone in the
blink of an eye. Till I’m again
in the doc’s office, waiting for
the latest verdict. How much
longer? the only question left,
my brothers and sisters.
